About

Writer, editor and creative consultant based in London.

I write about literature, culture, art, desire, mythology and language. Currently working on my first novel Azure. Graduate of NYU’s Fiction MFA Programme. Editor at Wonderflaw. A judge for the New York International Screenplay Awards. I also consult creative projects for brands, organisations and individuals, and regularly contribute essays, reviews and features to publications including Vogue and Semaine.

I have interviewed former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on camera, and many others for both print and broadcast including; Emma Dabiri, Fergus & Margot Henderson, Alok Vaid-Menon, Laura Bailey, Tabitha Goldstaub, Katy Hessel, Amit Gupta, Marisa Meltzer, Talita von Fürstenberg, Monica Ainley, Emily Oberg and Mickalene Thomas.

I consulted the script and production for How to Be a Fashion Revolutionary, a two-part documentary on the social and environmental impacts of what we wear, and was featured in the coffee table book by Gestalten, How to Be a Tastemaker, both in collaboration with Semaine.

As a journalist, I have covered politics, human rights, tech, wellness, beauty, travel, arts, literary and cultural criticism in the past decade. I created the Vogue Book Club for Vogue Türkiye; a monthly curation of international literature, and developed a series on AI and the future of creative industries for Kapital Media.

Before founding Deftin Limited, I worked for British Vogue, Samsung, Newsflare, Somerset Studios, Matchesfashion and Turkcell, and created ME& magazine. I graduated with First Class Honours from The University of the Arts London, with a BA in Journalism, and was Editor for the issue of Artefact shortlisted for Stack Awards’ Student Magazine of the Year.

I am deeply committed to making a meaningful impact concerning inequalities in the arts, education and mental health, so I particularly welcome opportunities in these areas. I’m a mentor at UAL for undergraduate publishing and journalism students and was a keynote speaker at Voices in Publishing on the importance of diverse storytelling. I also write and speak extensively on mental health awareness and my experience with ADHD.
